Last Tango in Paris

Fall Winter 2003/2004

Fall Winter 2003/2004 was inspired by the complex, erotic and sensuous film, "Last Tango in Paris". Onyx in faille, matte satin, chiffon, crepe de chine, organza, gabardine, wool and velour de soie with a bruise here and there of purple metal-flake, deep crimson and various shades of scarlet either peeking out or worn in such deep hues as if to disguise its cardinal roots as midnight onyx.

A smoky entrance added to the sensuality of the "Last Tango" theme, but it was one of Lloyd Klein's front row guests that made this Tango torrid.  Brando's co-star, Maria Schneider, flew in from Paris to see the show that was born out of a conversation the two had at a cafe on Rue Fauborg St. Honore in Paris the season before. Also in from Paris, to walk his runway, was Lloyd Klein's longtime muse, supermodel Rebecca Ayoko who was omnipresent on Klein's runway in Paris. After the show backstage Lloyd celebrated his Feb.15th birthday with his pal Paris Hilton whose birthday in the 17th with a 6' tall chocolate cake replica of the Tour d'Eiffel. Paris and Nicky Hilton joined Lloyd for his designer bow at the conclusion of show.

  • SHE was supposed to star in Lloyd Klein's fashion show Friday. But Maria Schneider, best known for buttering up Marlon Brando in "Last Tango to Paris", never made it onto the runway. Klein flew Schneider in for the show, but didn't have a pair of shoes to fit her. Then, though she was ready to accompany the designer as he took his bow to the strains of the 1973 movie, he grabbed a couple of young models (Paris and Nicky Hilton) as his escorts, leaving a fuming Schneider backstage.

"For his "Last Tango in Paris," Lloyd Klein served up an outstanding collection of dramatic looks for women. There were intriguing geometric collars, large cuffs on jackets, plunging cowl necks and up-to-there skirt slits. Highlights: A silver foxtail fur wrap over a tailored gray pantsuit, a black leather one-shoulder asymmetrical dress and a black velvet dress with a plunging neckline, black floral appliques and a wide black patent leather belt."
